Provenance: library of the U.S. Artillery School, Fort Monroe, VA
This is a very scarce 1st edition work, being an account of the war with the Netherlands complete with 34 engraved plates, 3 of which are folding, some hand-colored. The plates include 17 detailed maps and 67 plans. Also bound with an extensive military dictionary. This rare account is scarcely seen on the market, and the condition of the present copy is quite attractive.
Period mottled calf boards, rebacked in period style with gilt by Addison's bindery. New marbled endpapers, and marbled page ends. Binding is very tight and in excellent condition. Internally, the condition is Very Good and still retains the original ads bound in at the rear. Two blindstamps from the US Artillery School library within the text, and one perforated stamp intext as well. Offsetting to plates and adjacent pages. Usual age-tone. Overall, Very Good and attractively bound. Scarce.
