We are happy to offer this 1st edition mathematical landmark work in wonderful condition! FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST TABLE OF ANTI-LOGARITHMS. This was Dodson's most important work. Dodson's tables of anti-logarithms were the most extensive to be published and remained current until a new set was produced in 1849. He was Master of the Royal Mathematical School at Christ's Hospital from 1755 to 1757, and he prepared the way for the ultimate incorporation of the Equitable Society. This is a very scarce book, especially in this condition.
The binding features beautiful original marbled calf boards restored in our bindery so you know the work is professional and archival. The spine is new, done at the time of restoration, with an antique rubbed finish. New red morroco title label in 24kt gold gilt. Some places of leather loss, particularly on the corners and some portions of the edges. All has been restored and at no further risk of continued deterioration. This is truly a beautiful, large book. Internally, the text is very clean and much better than average. Some toning mostly to the first few and last few pages, but very little. Little to no foxing is present in this book. The large pages have wrinkled a bit over time (as is common for a book of this size) though the pages are crisp and very clean overall. Gutters have been repaired. Some foxing and heavier toning to the blank end-papers and pastedowns. Front paste-down bears and 1819 inscription from a bookseller. Overall, this copy is far above average and rare in any condition.
