This set is an unbelievable find! Somehow, this set of Lanzi’s famous Storia Pittorica managed to pass the last 200 years in its original paper wraps and appears entirely unread. Typically, books were published in paper covers and then taken, by the owner, to the local binder for binding. This particular set is often only found in libraries, bound in the detestable buckram we all know and hate! The original state of this set makes this rare book even more rare, and the incredible condition makes it rarer still. This is the 3^rd edition, considered the best edition, of Lanzi’s work covering the history of Florentine, Sienese, Roman, and Neapolitan schools of art.  The condition of the yellowish paper covers is quite predictable. The condition is Good, showing the average wear with some fading, bumped corners, a couple of small tears, with number marks at the top of each spine suggesting this sets may have once been in a large collection or possibly a library; however, there are no internal markings and no evidence the book has ever been read. The internal condition is Near Fine with some warping (a consequence of the books never having been hard-bound and pressed), and some bumped corners. The pages are very crisp and stiff, the paper quality is excellent, being bright, fresh and quite thick. Little to no markings, foxing or soiling -- mostly just bright page after bright page. This is a rare opportunity to own this set in its purest state and in excellent internal condition.
