This is a beautiful example of Broughton's Religious Dictionary. Presented in a large format with an engraved frontis, the present copy is in incredible condition with very clean pages. It would be difficult to imagine that a more pristine copy exists. Broughton lists various religions (and particular aspects of each) in alphabetical order for ease of use, and the information is very detailed as you may imagine for a folio containing a total of nearly 1,200 pages (2 volumes bound as 1). The first edition appeared about 7 years earlier, but it was then published in English in 1742. This 1745 folio is the second edition in English. This is a very rare find, particularly in this size and condition.
Hinges cracked but both boards held firmly by 4 cords (front and back), loss at head and tail of spine, recent gold title label in morocco, period full polished calf, firmly bound text-block, nicely restored and buffed, and ready to last another 100 years. Internally, the gutters are split, there is a spot here or there, but otherwise Near Fine, or almost like new. Very crisp, bright pages. Excellent overall.
