This is a wonderful first edition of Pepys' Memoires of the Royal Navy in excellent condition. Pepys (1633 -- 1703) was a member of Parliament and an English Naval Administrator. His influence at the Admiralty was key to the early organization of the British Navy, and he holds a special place in naval history. The present example is in excellent overall condition. Nicely bound in later full calf with gilt (ca. 1920), the condition of the binding is Fine with the contents being Very Good overall.
Ink stamp of the Royal Society on verso of title-page, folding tables with some light splitting at the folds. Overall, a very nice copy of a rare and important work.
