Rarely ever seen on the market, this wonderful 1st edition example of Fortis' Dalmazia is truly as scarce as it is beautiful. The paper quality is of the best produced in Venice in the 18th century -- very bright and clean. Illustrating Fortis' study of Dalmazia are 15 total engraved plates which are all very well struck and in nice condition. This large, handsome book (2 volumes bound in 1) is presented in a very pleasing period polished calf with gilt.
The binding is sturdy with discretely re-hinged boards. Tightly bound and presents very handsomely. Some light edge wear and loss at spine ends. Internally, the 2 maps were remargined when first bound. Very clean and bright pages. An excellent example overall.
