Provenance: former owner bookplates of Sir Montgomery Bar. of Stanhope
This is a great, large, rare set presented in period panelled calf bindings. Patrick Abercromby was an antiquarian/historian opposed to the union of England and Scotland. While he did some minor work with other authors, this is the only major work published under his name. The condition of both volumes is Very Good: bindings firm though cracks to hinge leather near the head and tail, gilt titles rubbed with loss, a few inscriptions, pages a bit wavey as with most large volumes such as these. Overall, it is a very clean and tight copy with sturdy hinges, with leather having been lightly restored and buffed to ensure its condition remains sound for many years to come in its original state.
