This is a very rare find, and it is rare for many reasons! First, it is all here -- typically, you may find one or two works or volumes. However, second, finding even one of these is extremely rare. This is a very hard to find Venice printing that contains hundreds of woodcut pictorial plates, ornamental initials, and headpieces. The paper quality is an excellent example of great Venice printing of the period. In all, it is difficult to imagine a more attractively printed Opere of Granada's works. This edition is translated into Italian from the Spanish of Granada. There are no other copies for sale online, and auction records only record a few instances of one volume coming up for sale. We find no records for the sale of a complete set, and Worldcat only shows one library holding a complete set. The condition is Very Good in text and illustration. The paper quality is nice, and most pages are very clean, white, crisp. Of course, there are instances of browning to some pages, light water-staining, some foxing -- nothing really uncommon, and certainly less flaws than average. On the whole, just a Very Good set. The only more abnormal flaws are paper repairs -- one which is creatively done to minimize its effect on text, the other to the last page of the first volume. The repairs do effect several words (see photos). A few signatures or slightly shaken or loose, but there are no completely loose or missing pages. The text blocks are in typical condition for limp vellum bindings of the period. The bindings are Good, or average. The period limp vellum binding exhibits the flaws typical to its age and construction. The pastedown inside are mostly torn, the bindings are pulling away or completely pulling away on one or the other side (note, the bindings are holding onto the text blocks, but pulled -- see photos). Usual amount of wrinkling and some staining. The second volume is bound in a different sort of vellum, and it probably came from another set; but it is quite similar in appearance. Photos reveal condition of binding. One of the most attractive aspects of this set is the numerous plates. As for the wonderful pictorial plates, there are between 110 and 120 present between the volumes! It should be noted that many of them are repeats. As for woodcut initials, and headpieces and vignettes -- The first volume contains in excess of 260 beautiful initials, many of them pictorial as well, and about 135 headpieces and vignettes. We did not count the instances in the other two volumes, but they can be assumed to be very similar. It's just a beautiful, unique, rare printing, and you will only find it here!
