Condition: Good+ to Very Good binding, Very Good + text.
This is an excellent and rare account of the life of Christ in a 1570 first edition. Many of the earliest editions (as this one) were illustrated and influenced the iconography of the Passion, examples of which can be seen in this book. This book is full of 1/4 page wooduct illustrations throughout. Currently, this is the only copy available world-wide, and we find only 4 libraries holding copies. We find only one copy of a later edition for sale. Not only is the book rare, but the condition is very nice as well (making it even more of a rarity). The binding bears some flaws. The spine is leather (probably 1800s) with gilt devices and title while the boards are a faux tree calf paper. The paper covers are rubbed at extremities and the corners are lightly bumped. The rear cover has some water damage that made the board warp somewhat. Internally, this is an extremely clean copy, especially for a book from this period. The paper is fresh, crisp. Flaws are minor in nature: title-page is lightly toned, a few instances of small marginal notes in a period ink, light spotting here or there, and some small light water-staining to the top inner margin of a few pages (very difficult to see). The flaws are few and are very slight. This is an overall excellent copy, certainly Very Good indeed.
