Large tinted lithograph on stone. "The Sheik of Lebanon." Sketched by David Wilkie, carved in stone by Joseph Nash. The image size is 16.5" by 12", though the paper measures 21" by 14.5 inches from edge to edge. Paper is thick stock.
From a collection published in the mid 1840s following the death of Wilkie upon his return from his travels. Wilkie sketched various figures during his travels. Upon his sudden death around 1840, his sketches were lithographed by Nash and published in honor of Wilkie. The condition is quite good with some toning and a few lights spots of foxing. The lower edge of the lithograph bears the stamp of the Museum for the Arts of Decoration. A nice, large lithograph, ready to frame.
