Condition: Very Good text in Very Good+ Binding.
This is a very attractive copy in very good antiquarian collectible condition. The binding is tight and square with green and white end-bands. Speckled edges all around. Beautiful period full calf binding in overall splendid condition. There is some rubbing and bumping to corners (rubbing mostly on the corners of the base). Some slight worming at top and bottom of spine and at the base of the front and rear board (very small holes). Hinges very good with no perceivable rubbing, which is rare. Gold gilt designs on spine over 5 bands, 6 compartments. There are scratches and imperfections as one would expect. Rare condition for a binding of this period. The text is generally Very Good, being for the most part quite clean and bright and showing signs of less-than-average use. There are a few small closed tears not affecting the text. Bookplate appears to have been cut out of front paste-down (visible in photo). At least 98% or more of the pages are perfectly clean and bright. A few small, discreet marginal notes in period ink on a few pages if you can find them. There is a small worm-hole running through the base of the first half of the text, nowhere near the text, and again very small. Paper quality and condition is very good. Overall, a very clean example, and an attractive one at that. NOTE that this is the Rome printing, which was the first -- other printings are not nearly as valuable.
